Logo Didier Ltd

Didier Ltd is unique in specialising in jewellery made and designed by painters, sculptors, architects and designers from the late 19th to the end of the 20th century. These artists are all recognised internationally for their art, but their jewellery is less well known or recorded. These jewels are very intimate and personal expressions of their art and may be regarded as wearable sculptures. Indeed for Calder, the wearer became a ‘living work of art”. The jewels were made as gifts for family and friends, especially by sculptors who are generally more adept in working their ideas out on a smaller scale, while for others it was a conscious exercise to create designs in miniature. Painters and print-makers are more likely to need the help of a facilitator to turn their designs into three-dimensional jewels, and the resulting pieces are more usually produced in small limited editions.

This website has two main parts: Jewellery by Artists and Jewellery by Designers. The former contains jewels by painters and sculptors, while the latter is much more wide-reaching to include signed works by studio and artistic jewellers, as well as by architects and designers. For us, the design of any jewel is more important than its intrinsic value. The gallery does not deal in contemporary jewels or re-issues, and with our historic perspective we are uniquely placed to acquire only those pieces that truly reflect the artist's language as welll as the most iconic jewellery designs from the second half of the 20th century. Indeed, the gallery now frequently lends pieces to international exhibitions, details of which may be found under Events, while also taking part in some of the most prestigious art and antiques fairs/shows in the world.
